UNAIDS estimates how many people are living with HIV, how many are receiving antiretroviral treatment and how treatment access differs across populations worldwide.
What the data show
At the end of 2025, 32.1 million people were accessing antiretroviral therapy, up from 7.6 million in 2010.
Overall, 78% of people living with HIV were accessing treatment.
Coverage differed by group: 79% among adults compared with 55% among children. Among adults, treatment access was 84% for women and 74% for men.
UNAIDS estimated that around 9 million of the 41 million people living with HIV were not on treatment in 2025.
What this helps us understand
The global treatment picture is not fully described by the overall coverage rate. Differences by age and gender show that progress is distributed unevenly across populations. For programs and funders, looking beyond the average can help identify where access patterns differ and where more specific approaches may be needed.
